Guadiato and Los Pedroches Greenway
A trip to one of Spain's most important industrial heritage sites by way of a section of the Fuente del Arco-Peñarroya-Puertollano narrow-gauge railway.
This greenway begins in the municipal district of Fuente Obejuna, being linked by a path (please note that there are no signs) and continuing through the Cerca Industrial de Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo industrial area and the section known as "Vía Verde de La Maquinilla".
It passes by hundred-year-old mine shafts and opencast mines transformed into artificial lakes, which are followed by wooded meadows where Iberian pigs roam freely. It ends in Villanueva del Duque, a typical village of Los Pedroches Valley next to a station, Minas del Soldado, which has been converted into accommodation.
Warning:
- The connecting road between Fuente Obejuna and Peñarroya - Pueblonuevo has no signs and has a certain degree of difficulty.
- The section between the municipal border of Belmez with Villanueva del Duque as far the junction with the Vereda de Puerto Rubio is being upgraded (MAPA).
- The section between the N-432 road and El Cerco de Peñarroya is being restored.
