Jara Greenway Nature Trail

Information
An adventure through unspoilt lands, from the banks of the Tagus to the wooded slopes of the Sierra de Altamira
ACCESS TO THIS GREENWAY IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. ANYONE WHO IGNORES THIS WARNING DOES SO ENTIRELY AT THEIR OWN RISK. Due to its poor state of conservation and the serious safety risks deriving from this fact (damaged pavement condition, lack of lighting in tunnels, and no maintenance since 2018), the JARA GREENWAY IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Changes will be announced in due course. As long as this situation persists, access to and circulation along the greenway is not allowed, and any person who disregards this notice shall do so do entirely at their own risk and responsibility, and will be held accountable for any accident or incident that may occur as a result. Particular special emphasis is placed on the prohibition of accessing or approaching the abandoned station grounds, and the so-called Tunnel No. 9 (the one located beyond the Nava-Fuentes station) closed due to landslides caused by heavy rains.
Sometimes, railways are born doomed. This was the case with the line designed to link Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) with the fertile plains of the Guadiana valley, in Extremadura. The rugged terrain and the massive engineering works required by this tortuous landscape led to the project being shelved before it ever carried a single passenger.
Today, the route of the Jara Greenway winds its way between the Toledo Mountains and the Villueras massif in Extremadura.
