Carrilet Olot– Girona Greenway Nature Trail
A refreshing itinerary in the shadow of the old volcanoes of La Garrotxa
The Girona-Olot railway was the main communications artery in the regions of La Garrotxa, La Selva and El Gironés until the 1960s. A modest narrow-gauge railway ("carrilet" in Catalonia) 54 km long, it ran along the banks of the Ter, Bruguent and Fluvià Rivers, under the disturbing shadow of the dormant volcanoes of La Garrotxa. Although the railway no longer exists, its old, endearing route has many pleasant surprises in store for travellers.
