This greenway runs along part of the route of the old railway line between Plasencia and Astorga, south of Salamanca.

The 20.2-km long Ruta de la Plata Greenway starts on the left bank of the Tormes River, very close to the Natura 2000 protected area: "Banks of the Tormes River and Tributaries", and runs northwest towards the town of Carbajosa de la Sagrada, in the outskirts of the capital city of Salamanca.
