In 1995, the direct section of the Barcelona–Sabadell railway between Bellaterra and Sant Quirze del Vallès stations was closed. It was replaced by a longer, curved alignment designed to serve the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The abandoned stretch has now become a small Greenway through dense pine forest. Thanks to its natural appeal, it will form an important part of a future 8 km Greenway linking Sant Quirze del Vallès and Rubí. This route is the result of local demand for an intermunicipal sustainable mobility corridor in the metropolitan belt of Barcelona, making use of the Vallès Greenway for one of its sections.
